Lesson 1: PAUL AND THE GOSPEL
Romans 1:1-17

Of God
1. What 3 things does Paul say about himself in v.1 served willingly, sent out, set apart (sanctified)
2. What does he say about the "good news"? What is it about?
3. Why was Paul mentioning Jesus' human and divine "genealogy"?
4. What is the resurrection proof of? Why?
5. What did the apostles receive through Jesus and for His name's sake Grace and apostleship,
abilty and office, empowerment and authority
6. What were they calling people to? What is the relationship between faith and actions?
7. Notice the word "call/ed" is used 4 times in 6 verses. What are you called to?
8. How did Paul regard the church in Rome? vv.6-7 He wishes them grace and peace.
9. Define what those are. Keep eye out why these were important to the church in Rome.

For Men
1. What was Paul doing for the church in Rome.
2. List verses and mark the phrases that show that Paul and his message is of God and for men.
3. Why was this introduction essential to the church's reception of Paul and his message?
4. How should we then receive Paul and his message?
5. Describe the example the apostle leaves for us?
6. How did Paul feel towards those who have yet to hear the gospel.
7. What were the Greeks best known for? Philosophy and logic.
8. Why both to the learned and unschooled, sophisticates and the intellectually challenged?

Gospel Power and Righteousness
1. Why was Paul not ashamed of the gospel? How would it stand up to Grecian thought and logic?
2. How is the gospel the power of God for salvation?
Describe the righteousness revealed in the gospel.
Why is this valuable to mankind?
3. How can we prepare to present the gospel and defend the faith in the face of
contemporary philosophies and religion? What are the benefits of understanding our salvation?
4. How and why must men be saved by God's righteousness? Note Hab. 2:4 and context.

 16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
