Michael Smith
Michael grew up in Florida with an interesting mix - his dad was a Baptist (from Florida) and his mom was a Buddhist (from Thailand). He graduated from Florida State University in 1994 where he earned a degree in Biology and became a Christian. After college, Michael taught High School ecology and was blessed also to lead his mom in a Bible study through the book of John. She became a Christian shortly thereafter, and he then moved to Europe for 5 years to work as a model. While there, he started several small Bible studies with those in fashion and anyone else who wanted to learn more about Jesus. Michael met his wife, Kristyn, in London. After being married, they moved to California in 2000 where he worked as the youth pastor at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. In 2005, he sensed that God had done all He wanted with them in the High School realm, and He opened a door in Santa Rosa. Michael took over a four month old church that was in an unexpected transition with their founding pastor. While serving there, Michael also developed a real heart to reach college aged students and so earned his Master's degree in Biology with the aim of teaching science at the college level along side of pastoring. After almost four years of serving in Sonoma County, God made it clear that he is to begin a new work in Southern California. Currently he is teaching science at Vanguard University and Azusa Pacific University, and teaching the Saturday night study at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.
"I am excited to see what God has in store for my family, the church, the university, and the city."
