John Henry Corcoran is an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.
He teaches a through-the-Bible series called The Word Among Us every Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Sanctuary. If you are not able to attend, you can watch it live on the Internet, or you can hear it on the radio every Friday night at 7:30 and Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. on K-Wave 107.9 FM. A large part of John’s ministry includes hospital calls, home visits, weddings, and funerals.
The heart of his ministry is teaching and exhorting people in the Word of God, praying for those who need healing, and tending to the pastoral needs of the flock. The banner over John’s ministry—and what he always wants to be in this work—is summed up in the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 1:24: "A helper of your joy.”
Before coming on staff at the invite of Pastor Chuck Smith in the summer of 1996, John Henry ministered with the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. After assisting at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa for three years he pastored a Calvary Chapel in the San Francisco Bay Area for about seven years, and then once again at the invite of the pastor, returned to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa to be Pastor Chuck’s personal assistant.
He and his wife, Hilary, have been associated with Calvary Chapel since 1988 when they began the first Calvary Chapel ministry in Ireland. There are now seven Calvary Chapels in Ireland.
John and Hilary live in Newport Beach and have three adult children: Karl, Erik, and Gary. Hilary is in business and very active in women’s ministry. Karl is a pastor with Calvary Chapel. Erik is about to graduate with a political science degree from Charleston Southern University and is actively involved with the Republican Party in Charleston South Carolina. Gary is doing his masters in Duke Divinity Durham, North Carolina, and has begun the ordination process with the Anglican Church in St Peters Tallahassee, Florida.
John desires to be an obedient servant, faithful in the ministry that he has been called to, and that he would remain in the center of God’s perfect will.

John Henry’s life verse of Scripture is: "Your words were found, and I did eat them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts” (Jeremiah 15:16).
